The Mashpee Wampanoag flag flew at half-staff last month in remembrance of Okemos R. Brown, 4, of Mashpee, a member of the Tribe who passed away from injuries sustained in a car accident on January 21.

He was the son of Kendall Nichole Scott of Mashpee and the late Okemos (Nighthawk) Brown-Northup of Charlestown, Rhode Island.

Okemos was a preschooler at the Kenneth C. Coombs School and a member of the Mashpee Wampanoag, Narragansett and Schaghticoke Indian Tribes.

He enjoyed spending time with his family and playing with his cousins and friends. He also loved his dinosaurs, attending Pow Wows and drumming.

In addition to his mother, he leaves his grandmother Marita Scott and grandfather David Weeden, both of Mashpee; his sister, Anna Lia Simpson of Rhode Island; his paternal grandparents, Meloni Brown and Benjamin Northup of Charlestown, Rhode Island; as well as his great-grandparents, aunts, uncles, and many cousins.

A service was held last month at the Old Indian Meetinghouse.

A gofundme me page has been setup to provide support for the family and to remember Okemos. https://www.gofundme.com/f/29crztce00
